for chuckles i grew some tobacco in my garden this past year. I wanted to try rolling my own cigars. The varieties of tobacco i got were: Virginia, Havana, Short Stalk, and Montero (M something, i think montero). After drying the leaves they were fermented/cured in a kiln and two weekends ago i rolled about 20 cigars. Its a fairly easy thing to do, but difficult to master, so my cigars look more like dog turds than fine smokes. They've been pressed and wrapped and are now in my humidor getting to proper humidity. Figure a week or so till i can light one up.
I know its not something we really discuss here, but growing your own tobacco is suprisingly easy and can be done in a 5 gallon bucket on your balcony. I highly recommend it to all enjoyers of the smoke.

you can just do a search for cigar seeds too. I can't really recommend any one seed over another, its one of those things you have to try and find what you like. -

Tue, February 5, 2008 - 1:28 PMon that info I linked, it said you should "cure" your tobacco at least a year...does that worry you at all, or have you done this before?
