PRIVATE STOCK!!!!!!!!!!

Made by Davidoff. SO very creamy, smooth, consistent, great construction and has a somewhat sweet-like, roasted nut undertone. And INEXPENSIVE!!! I highly recommend it.
Any recommendations?

What happens when Fidel dies?
Will his brother run a similar regime? Will the States drop the embargo after some talks? How will it change the way Americans view Cuban tobacco?

Hard to say. But I wanted to share a cool story about a little old Cuban lady that stopped by my store earlier this week.

A super lovely older Cuban lady stopped by the store this week. She started off with how seeing cigars sparked a memory of her father from her childhood in Cuba and how he always had one in his mouth.

Then she went on to tell me that supposedly Fidel is very ill... his brother will more than likely take control soon thereafter his death... and there may have already been some talk that he (the brother) initiated w/ the States that so far, resulted in nothing.

She also mentioned that due to Fidel's hunger for power and money he apparently did something to the sugar and cigar plantations and farms that had a long-term effect on the soil and the quality of the crops. Sadly the end results are not what they were about 20-some years ago. With all the crazy weather fluctuations over the past few years, with all the hurricanes and storms, the crops have suffered quite a bit and Fidel didn't prepare the country properly for the changes and tried to save money by NOT preparing. While he supposedly has millions in the reported bank accounts (there are several that are NOT reported) the country, the people, and the sugar and tobacco industries suffer.

Also, it was interesting to hear that with all her travels and living in the states for more than half her life she too has noticed that the type of Cuban that's emmigrating to the States is a completely different breed than what they were back in her day. Back in her day when she came with her family, they had to work hard, just like my parents and grandparents did when we emmigrated from Russia, to build from scratch and become who we are today. The type of Cubans coming now are the same as the larger portion of the Russian emmigres is this past decade, they are coming here with unreasonable expectations and to be served on a silver platter. I realize this has nothing to do w/ the embargo, just thought it was interesting that a country that is so poor in every aspect and a people that are so persecuted and oppressed are that unreasonable upon arriving to the land of the free. It would make more sense that they had NO expectations and built a life for themselves like our families did.

Another off-topic note... she mentioned that if ever in Cuba, possibly the BEST beach in the world to visit is "VARADERO BEACH".

Super cool lady, so glad I had a chance to meet her. I offered her a cigar, but she smiled, laughed, and said that her father would've liked one, but she'll graciously decline.
for chuckles i grew some tobacco in my garden this past year. I wanted to try rolling my own cigars. The varieties of tobacco i got were: Virginia, Havana, Short Stalk, and Montero (M something, i think montero). After drying the leaves they were fermented/cured in a kiln and two weekends ago i rolled about 20 cigars. Its a fairly easy thing to do, but difficult to master, so my cigars look more like dog turds than fine smokes. They've been pressed and wrapped and are now in my humidor getting to proper humidity. Figure a week or so till i can light one up.

I know its not something we really discuss here, but growing your own tobacco is suprisingly easy and can be done in a 5 gallon bucket on your balcony. I highly recommend it to all enjoyers of the smoke.

It's here! Got the first issue of the free, new, cigar mag called "Cigar Press." Anyone else heard, read or will be carrying them? It's quite informative actually. The taste tests are done by anyone who subscribes(ed) to carry their mag. There's a great page at the back of it w/ some great commentary from readers as well as some cigar humor that had me cracking up. It's a much more thourough read than Aficionado ever was or will be. I'm impressed!

Currently before the United States Senate is a proposal to fund health insurance on the backs of tobacco products to the tune of $35 billion (that's Billion with a B). Most egregious is the proposed tax rate on cigars of 53.1%, including a breathtaking 20,400% increase in the cap. This would make handmade cigars - a true mom-and-pop industry, a product enjoyed by choice an average 3 times per week - the single largest excise taxed item in the entire Internal Revenue Code....by a long shot.

This piece of legislation is called SCHIP (State Childrens Health Insurance Plan). Tonight this bill is being marked up in the Senate Finance Committee and is expected to come to the Senate floor for a vote as early as end of week. We urge you to call both of your U.S. Senators today and express your opposition to funding "SCHIP legislation" with punitive cigar taxes. As a constituent your voice will be heard.
Personally, the status of 'favorite' gets moved around quite a bit because my tastes change on a whim almost. Currently, my favorite is the J Fuego Robusto Natural. For me, it is simply the best 'natural' wrapper cigar Ive ever had. t is smooth and unassuming. Flavorful with some depth and actually has a small twinge of strength without souring. so, I have been lucky enough to meet the man and ge drunk with him and it always reminds of those times.

Most people seem to be put of by the flavored cigars for one reason or another but the Five not too strong. It's a mild smoke, especially for a maduro rapper. It smokes well which is a credit to it's construction.

I highly recommend these. I've had to stop smoking them because I was smoking several every time I had a chance, and that's a big drain on the pocketbook. :-)

Pretty cool looking but I'll skip taking this one home to sample since it retails for $50. Anyone try this one before?

I must preclude this with a disclaimer stating that I like flavored cigars. Anyway, this weeks selections are.

I bought a Cohiba double-guillotine cutter this weekend, and have never been happier with a cutter like I am with this one. It has a wall that your cigar tip hits, so it basically measures the exact amount that gets cut. It's a perfect cut. It's an inexpensive black, plastic cutter, with the Cohiba (in yellow/black/white) label on the back side of it.

I get Cubans on occassion since I'm fortunate enough to be able to travel overseas regularly on business, and I'd say that these compare favourably to the cuban torpedoes that I've smoked.
